In an effort to reestablish its luster as an automotive powerhouse, Italian automaker Ferrari has announced the introduction of its first four door car. Dubbed the Purosangue (which translates to “beautiful roar”), this new model is set to go up against cars like the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro in terms of popularity.

The vehicle was officially revealed at a press event in Italy earlier today where it received mixed reactions from both fans and critics. While some appreciated the company’ts shift towards more luxurious vehicles, many others felt that it was too gimmicky for their taste.

Ferrari Builds A 4-Door V12: Purosangue (Pure Blood)

Many noted how similar the new car looks to the classic 458 Italia which launched back in 2013. The design similarities are quite striking as both have sweptback headlights with blacked out rims, double domes atop the hood, large air intake scoops under the front bumper, dual exhaust pipes that taper off into vertical fins, quad tailpipes, and sleek lines all over the body.

However, while the old 458 had a two-door layout, the new one will be fully functional five door variant that drops the rear passenger access via sliding doors instead. This move seems rather unnecessary since there is already enough space between the back seats and the trunk to fit another row of seating if needed.

Purosangue Specifications

The new four-door model is called the Ferrari 488 GT Batteries Included. It goes by the name of Purosangue, which means “dandy” in Spanish. This is not an accident as it pays homage to one of Ferrari’s most famous track cars from their past, the F430 GTC. When you order one, you get to choose between Inferno Red or Volcano Orange as the exterior color.

You can also add either carbon fiber composite roof panels or not. Both are cost-effective ways to personalize your vehicle while keeping the weight down.

The standard engine is a 3.8 liter V8 that makes 577 horsepower and 429 lb.-ft. of torque. You can upgrade it to include a 603hp bi-turbocharged unit or a 710 hp quad turbo V8. All three engines come paired with dual-clutch transmissions.

These go into overdrive at higher RPM for lightning quick acceleration and seamless passing. Drivers will have access to every bit of power the car has without having to shift constantly. An active driver will love this feature!

The name also refers to how some people speak with a lisping or slurring sound when they are very passionate about something. That seems appropriate for an Italian car brand that is known for its passion towards racing and performance.

Ferrari did not hold back on the power either, this new model will be able to pull up to 550 horsepower (410 kW) at full speed!

This makes it even more powerful than the current 458 Speciale that only produces 50 fewer horses. Both models can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) in under 3 seconds, making them both quite speedy.

Body & Structure

Most cars have separate front and back bodies connected by an internal frame. A small amount of space is left between the two so they can move independently. This allows you to safely transfer weight towards the rear while keeping the engine protected.

With the Purosangue, however, there’s no internal frame. Instead, the body panels connect directly onto each other, leaving only very thin walls in between. This creates more surface area for aerodynamic benefits and better cooling. It also makes the car lighter, helping it reach top speeds faster!
